Watch: The Browns viral Shedeur Sanders-Todd Monken meeting that just settled QB1 debate

16 hours ago 3

The Cleveland Browns may have just ended the most anticipated quarterback competition in the NFL with a single social media post. In a viral clip released from inside the Browns’ facility, new head coach Todd Monken is seen meeting with Shedeur Sanders in what feels less like a formal introduction and more like a long-awaited reunion.

The smoke from last year’s draft has finally been replaced by fire. For months, rumors swirled that Monken and the Baltimore Ravens were prepared to pull the trigger on Sanders before his camp reportedly told them not to take him.

In the video, Monken says the quiet part out loud, "We tried to get you last year," Monken tells Shedeur, adding with a grin, "it all worked out." Sanders was smiles, and daps up his new coach.

This subtext is deafening. By choosing to showcase this specific interaction, while showing no footage or mention of other quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel, the Browns front office is sending a clear message to the Dawg Pound.

The Browns also posted from their official Instagram page a photo of the two embracing with the caption, "the playmaker / the mastermind".

An interesting add on is that Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported that as part of Cleveland's coaching search candidate questionnaire was a section on how to develop Sanders. It seems that Monken passed this test question with flying colors.

The Browns message is undeniable. The quarterback competition is over before it even began. Sanders is Monken's clear QB1 favorite entering training camp.
