It makes us ill knowing we were not in the crowd for this mini *NSYNC reunion.
Joey Fatone, who had previously been a cast member of both the Broadway and touring productions of & Juliet, returned to the Broadway stage to host a special & Juliet sing-along performance and *NSYNC fan night on Tuesday (May 12). During a cast performance of *NSYNC’s Billboard Hot 100 chart topper “It’s Gonna Be Me,” Fatone, the cast and audience were treated to a special surprise when none other than Lance Bass ran on stage for the final moments of the song, and the crowd went wild.
In a clip of the special moment jointly posted to the & Juliet and Bass’ Instagram accounts, one audience member in particular can be heard repeatedly screaming “oh my god.”
According to People, Bass almost didn’t make the performance. The former boy-band member was in the audience of Titanique — another Tony-nominated Broadway production — during Fatone’s sing-along. However, Titanique‘s shorter runtime gave Bass the opportunity to run through the streets of Manhattan to the Stephen Sondheim Theatre for the final moments of “It’s Gonna Be Me” at & Juliet.
Although the Fatone x Bass Broadway link-up was a one-time moment, “It’s Gonna Be Me” is a regular part of the Tony-nominated show. & Juliet is a jukebox musical that celebrates the music of five-time Grammy-winning record producer and songwriter Max Martin, including some of his biggest Hot 100 hits, such as Katy Perry’s No. 1 “Roar,” Kelly Clarkson’s No. 2 “Since U Been Gone” and Britney Spears’ chart topper “…Baby One More Time.”
Although he didn’t physically make it to the performance, another *NSYNC member was also there for the show in a way: Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” is also a regular part of the musical’s tracklist.
