Warriors urged to acquire 6-foot-5 ex-Bucks NBA champion guard via buyout

With the Golden State Warriors having a few open roster spots available heading into the buyout season, it’s safe to assume they’ll attempt to identify assets that could assist them during their 2025-26 championship pursuit.

An ex-Milwaukee Bucks NBA champion guard is one of the contributors that Sports Illustrated’s Joey Akeley believes the Dubs should consider pursuing.

“(Pat) Connaughton is a decent shooter (35.7% from three in his career) who won't kill your defense,” Akeley wrote Friday. “He's played in 86 playoff games.”

The Charlotte Hornets recently waived Connaughton, a move many anticipated. Connaughton simply wasn’t getting the job done, resulting in a limited role in Charlotte’s offense before he was ultimately cut by the franchise.

The Notre Dame product connected on 40.7% of his long-range jumpers in 22 games with the Hornets this year, but only contributed 2.9 points per game.

The good news for Connaghton is that he’s an 11-year veteran who knows what’s required to win a title, which could easily land him back on his feet.

The Warriors are an organization that could benefit from adding the former second-round pick, as his championship pedigree and solid track record as a three-point shooter are a recipe for an impactful stint with the Dubs.

It remains to be seen if Golden State will target Connaughton this season
