Like the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors’ offseason will be centered on moves that’ll benefit their superstar, franchise asset.
Stephen Curry wants to win right now, which isn’t breaking news considering he’s 38 years old and likely has 2-3 years remaining in the big leagues. According to a recent rumor, the Warriors could cut ties with a 30-year-old former All-Star center to help them pair Curry with younger, fresher legs.
"He's (Kristaps Porzingis) much more to me, much more likely to be traded to a team that wants to pay him more than the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, more than $15 million,” The San Francisco Standard’s Tim Kawakami reported Saturday.
“So you trade him for a young, kind of athletic player or two of them, and he signs with a new team for $25 million a year.”
Moving on from Porzingis may be among the wisest moves the Warriors could make this summer. Porzingis joined the Dubs on Feb. 5 via a blockbuster trade from the Atlanta Hawks and was solid with the seven-time NBA champions during the second portion of the 2025-26 campaign (he averaged 16.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game in 15 contests).
However, the main problem was that Porzingis struggled to stay healthy in the Bay, a recurring theme throughout his career.
By including Porzingis in a trade for contributors who would complement Curry well going forward, the Warriors would be able to move on from the Liepaja, Latvia, native while getting something positive in return.
