Warriors trade idea sends Jonathan Kuminga to Bucks for $175 million NBA champion forward

The Golden State Warriors shouldn’t lose sight of the main goal as the 2025-26 season approaches.

The Dubs possess a formidable roster, but must consider adding another star if they want to help Stephen Curry end his career with more than four championships.

On Tuesday, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz suggested that the Warriors swap Jonathan Kuminga for an NBA champion Milwaukee Bucks forward at some point this season.

“The Golden State Warriors should be thinking big if they want to give Stephen Curry a chance at a fifth ring, especially as he gets ready to turn 38 next season,” Swartz wrote.

“As Tim Kawakami of The San Francisco Standard wrote this summer: ‘There's another reason why the Warriors don't want to give (Jonathan) Kuminga away for less than his full trade value: Like every other smart team, they're trying to maintain every asset they've got so they're ready once and if the Giannis Antetokounmpo market heats up."

“Now with Kuminga under contract, along with some other young players and future draft picks available, the Warriors could make a strong offer for the two-time MVP if he ends up asking out of Milwaukee.”

Antetokounmpo’s future with the Bucks is as foggy as ever. The former first-round pick was in a good spot with the franchise after the 2020-21 season (the Bucks defeated the Phoenix Suns in the NBA finals), but things are far from smooth in Milwaukee following four straight playoff duds.

Antetokounmpo has been a Buck his entire career and has grown to love and appreciate the organization/fan base.

However, the 30-year-old is in win-now mode, and if he discovers his future goals don’t match Milwaukee’s, he may demand a trade to a championship-contending franchise.

Antetokounmpo, who averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.2 steals per game last season, would give the Warriors their third superstar as they attempt to make their first championship run since the 2021-22 campaign.

While three-point shooting isn't a regular part of Antetokounmpo’s game, the dynamic nine-time All-Star’s ability to quickly change direction and accelerate to the rim would make him a viable fit in the Warriors' up-tempo offense.

An underwhelming start to the year for the Dubs could lead to a blockbuster trade sending Kuminga to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo.
