Warriors trade idea lands $220 million Knicks superstar center, former Rookie of the Year

There’s no better time for the Golden State Warriors to begin creating a lengthy list of assets that could strengthen the franchise’s 2026-27 championship odds.

The offseason is right around the corner, and the Dubs can’t afford to endure another postseason-less campaign. According to Blue Man Hoop’s Peter O’Keefe, Golden should keep a close eye on the New York Knicks’ 30-year-old superstar center, who won the Rookie of the Year award in 2016.

“Karl-Anthony Towns proves why he'd be an ideal Warriors trade target,” O’Keefe wrote Friday.

“After falling behind 2-1, the Knicks and former Warrior assistant Mike Brown empowered Towns as far more of a facilitator over the final three games of the series. Having dished out 10 assists through the first three games, Towns had 26 in the three-straight wins, adding a new dimension to a New York offense that averaged nearly 127 points.”

“Should Steve Kerr remain as Golden State's head coach, it's easy to envisage how Towns would be used effectively in a system that focuses on ball and player movement.”

If the Warriors lose Kristaps Porzingis in free agency, it’ll be essential for the organization to replace his production to the best of its ability. Jimmy Butler remains the Warriors’ most valuable trade asset, which could help jump-start a deal for Towns and remain stable at the center position.

Towns would be a significant upgrade from Porzingis despite possessing a similar playing style, as he isn’t an injury-prone contributor in his 30s.

In other words, the Warriors would get to enjoy Towns’ unicorn-like skill set for an extended period, which is something they weren’t fortunate enough to experience with Porzingis this season.

If Towns becomes available on the trade market, Golden State should be prepared to pounce.
