For the entire summer, Steph Curry was the most closely watched Golden State Warrior as many wondered when he would agree to a contract extension. Curry eventually signed an extension with Golden State just before the season began, likely making it his final contract before retirement.
The veteran point guard has only known the Bay Area throughout his NBA career. Before signing the extension, he made it clear that he wanted to remain a Warrior for life.
“Not at all. I've always stated that I wanna be a lifer with Golden State… My mission is to stay in Golden State and be competitive, the contract stuff will take care of itself,” Curry said.
The Warriors have gotten off to a strong start, including winning seven consecutive games. A big part of that success has been Yaxel Lendeborg's contributions this early in the season. Bill Simmons believes the rookie has saved the Curry era.
“Yaxel might have single-handedly saved the Steph era, like for real, and I can't tell you how good he was in this Denver game last night . . . Yaxel looked like mid-2010's LeBron in this game. I don't say that lightly because mid-2010's LeBron was awesome. They're running the offense through him. He was all over the place on defense. He was rebounding. He was initiating stuff. He was getting to the basket whenever. It was unbelievable. I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe how good he was," Simmons said.
On Saturday night, the Warriors secured their seventh consecutive victory. During the game, Curry passed LeBron James for the most 40-point games in NBA history since turning 35 years old.
“Stephen Curry has just recorded his 16th game with 40+ points since turning 35 years old. That passes LeBron James for the most such games after turning 35 in NBA history,” NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote.
Curry is silencing the doubters who questioned how his knee would respond this season following concerns about a lingering injury. Despite getting older, Curry remains one of the best scorers in the league.
The four-time NBA champion is showing no signs of slowing down as a dominant scorer. Curry has added another historic accomplishment to his résumé, but this likely won't be the last time he makes the history books before his playing career is over.
