The Golden State Warriors have made their intentions of pursuing LeBron James clear since before free agency even began. Stephen Curry and James have long spoken about the possibility of playing together, especially after showcasing their chemistry with Team USA.
Golden State has made recruiting James one of its top priorities this offseason. Curry reportedly met with the four-time NBA champion back in June.
“Pairing him with Stephen Curry is going to be something that the Warriors are going to pursue over the next few weeks… It seemed very doubtful, it seemed low percentage, now it’s kind of questionable. Now there’s going to be some legs to this… That same source told us that Steph is planning on meeting and talking with LeBron about potentially joining the Warriors over the course of the next few weeks leading up to free agency,” NBA insider Brett Siegel said.
Earlier this week, Warriors veteran Draymond Green was also reportedly scheduled to meet with James as Golden State continued its recruiting efforts.
“LeBron James and Draymond Green are meeting up as the NBA's all-time leading scorer looks to join a new team for the 2026-27 season, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Charania reported that James and Green are spending some time here together this week at an undisclosed location during a Tuesday appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Bleacher Report’s Zach Bachar wrote.
Curry has been competing in a golf tournament this week and spoke with the media on Thursday. When asked what his recruiting pitch to James would be, Curry had a simple response.
“Do you want to play good basketball and be around people who know how to play the game?” Curry said. "There's good golf in the Bay too."
If Curry and James were to join forces, they would instantly become one of the NBA's most talented duos. The Warriors have pulled out all the stops in their pursuit of James, with Curry taking an active role in the recruiting process.
Golden State remains an intriguing destination for James, although questions remain about whether the current roster is enough to compete for another championship. Even so, Curry's lighthearted mention of golf showed he is willing to sell every aspect of life in the Bay Area as the Warriors continue their push to land the future Hall of Famer.
