Warriors should swap Jonathan Kuminga for top 10 three-point shooter, per writer

More likely than not, the Golden State Warriors will find a sign-and-trade partner for Jonathan Kuminga before the end of the summer.

Kuminga has no desire to continue his career with the Dubs, giving the organization an incentive to help the NBA champion forward find a new home.

Blue Man Hoop’s Maxwell Ogden believes that if the Warriors send Kuminga to the Sacramento Kings, they should receive a top-10 three-point shooter in return.

“Completing a sign-and-trade that centers around Kuminga is logistically complex,” Blue Man Hoop’s Maxwell Ogden wrote Thursday.

“Sacramento (Kings) is reportedly offering Kuminga a salary in the range of $90 million over four seasons, and a combination of (Devin) Carter and (Dario) Saric would still require the introduction of another financial element to make the deal work.”

“In the event that the Kings and Warriors can coordinate a trade that's built around (Keon) Ellis and Kuminga, however, it's a deal Golden State should seriously consider."

“The cap space created by this deal is reason enough to be intrigued by what could transpire moving forward. Saric has an expiring salary worth $5,426,400 for the 2025-26 season, and both Carter and Ellis are on rookie-scale deals—although it's unlikely Sacramento would include both guards.”

Playing for a small-market franchise hasn’t done Ellis any favors to begin his NBA career. Still, numbers don’t lie, making it pivotal to state that the Alabama product finished the 2024-25 campaign as the No. 8 long-range sniper in the league (he shot 43.3% from deep).

There’s no question that Ellis’ three-point prowess would make him a smoother fit with the Dubs than Kuminga.

Ellis has improved his scoring and perimeter shooting each season with Sacramento Kings, making it logical to assume the 25-year-old guard will take another step forward next season.

Kuminga isn’t going to be the best version of himself in the Bay, so the quicker the organization can move on from him, the better.
