The Golden State Warriors must resolve their Jonathan Kuminga dilemma before it’s too late.
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Warriors are expected to add NBA champion Celtics center Al Horford to their roster this summer. However, the drama surrounding Golden State's 22-year-old restricted free agent has delayed the inevitable signing.
Interestingly, Fansided’s Joseph Kallan is a firm believer that once the Dubs decide Kuminga’s fate, the organization should sign a Philadelphia 76ers rising star instead of Horford.
“Rather than going after a 39-year-old Al Horford, the Warriors should target Quentin Grimes, a 25-year-old 3-and-D wing who could actually make a difference,” Kallan wrote Monday.
“After a midseason trade from Dallas (Mavericks) to Philadelphia (76ers), Grimes averaged 21.9 points in 28 appearances — shooting career highs across the board. He's reportedly seeking $25 million, a number he’s unlikely to command in this market.”
“But Golden State could offer him a smaller deal with a bigger opportunity: play alongside (Stephen) Curry, (Jimmy) Butler, and Draymond (Green), and become a featured contributor in a high-IQ system.”

“He wouldn’t start in Philly. He might in Golden State. For a Warriors team desperate for youth, shooting, and perimeter defense, Grimes should be priority No. 1 — even if it means adjusting expectations.”
Grimes was in the perfect situation with the 76ers to close the 2024-25 regular season.
Two days before the Feb. 6 trade deadline, the Mavericks shockingly traded the former first-round pick to Philadelphia despite exhibiting promise with the franchise.
With the 76ers getting hit with the injury bug, Grimes received an opportunity to showcase the encouraging shot-creating and spot-up shooting that helped him flourish in high school and college.
The 2018 McDonald’s All-American reached the 20 points per game mark for the first time in his career, helping him gain confidence entering free agency.
While Grimes is an intriguing wing target for the Warriors, losing Kevon Looney earlier this summer should make signing Horford a primary objective for the seven-time NBA champions.
