Warriors predicted to trade Steph Curry to Rockets for $172M exciting duo to end dynasty era

The Golden State Warriors are trying to figure out what is best for their future as Steph Curry continues to get older. The four-time NBA champion is approaching another contract extension, but it remains unclear whether he will ultimately sign it.

Golden State has done very little to build around Curry. Instead, the Warriors have primarily brought back players who have recently been part of the organization.

“The Warriors are officially running it back despite missing the playoffs last season. Golden State re-signed Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, De'Anthony Melton, and Gary Payton II this summer," NBA writer Jake Weinbach posted.

For this reason, ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins has urged Curry to find a way out of the Bay Area.

“Steph needs to be planning his exit strategy from the Golden State Warriors," said Perkins on 'NBA Today'. "Think about it, over the last four years, the Warriors have been in the play-in tournament. And this year, the way that the West is stacked up, they're gonna be a play-in tournament team again. You can't waste any more time hoping and banking that Mike Dunleavy is gonna get it right or is gonna make the moves that are needed to make sure that you can compete for a title, especially in a tough Western Conference.”

If things reach a certain point, Curry could potentially be traded for significant value. SI’s Eric Jay Santos believes he could be sent to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jabari Smith Jr., Fred VanVleet, JD Davison and draft compensation.

“Due to his $62.5 million salary for the 2026-2027 regular season, there aren’t many routes for the Rockets to acquire Curry via trade. One of the most realistic offers that Houston’s front office can make is Fred VanVleet, Jabari Smith Jr., JD Davison, and draft compensation,” Santos wrote.

This could be a strong return for the Warriors, as they would acquire a promising young player in Smith Jr. However, it would be interesting to see what Golden State would do with VanVleet, who is entering the latter stages of his career.

VanVleet and Smith Jr. have contracts worth a combined $172 million. If the Warriors were to make this deal, it would mark the end of the dynasty they built around Curry. Depending on how everything unfolds, Golden State could eventually be faced with no choice but to move on from its franchise icon and begin a new era.
