Warriors predicted to trade for $197M explosive former first overall pick to pair with Steph Curry

The Golden State Warriors are coming off an offseason in which they didn't add many known players who can help turn the team around. It looks like it could be an okay season after missing out on LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

For a while, the Warriors didn't add many notable names and instead brought back players who had already been within the organization. The approach was viewed by some as the team going off the rails.

“The Golden State Warriors' offseason is quickly going off the rails, with them having done little to improve thus far. The Warriors failing to improve their roster this summer should come as a massive disappointment to star Steph Curry," Hoops Habit's Cal Durrett wrote.

However, the team finally went outside of the organization with its two roster spots, signing two players with playoff experience.

“The Warriors signed Georges Niang to a partially guaranteed deal and Brandon Williams to a non-guaranteed deal, sources say. Niang is partially guaranteed for $1.84M of his $3.88M salary. Williams can earn $1.4M if he makes the opening night roster and up to $2.63M total,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto posted.

After a disappointing offseason, Blue Man Hoop's Peter O'Keefe believes Golden State can make the fans happier with a trade for New Orleans Pelicans former first overall pick Zion Williamson.

“They took the risk on Kristaps Porzingis because it didn't cost them any draft capital. Even Jimmy Butler was a risk to some degree, but that was mitigated because they only gave up one first which resulted in the 20th overall pick. Williamson would fit this mould, allowing them to land a middle aged piece for the now and future while not sacrificing draft capital. It's still a gamble but one you could see the Warriors taking based on their recent philosophies,” O’Keefe wrote.

This would certainly be a risk, but Williamson is starting to look like the healthiest he has been in his career, which is a great sign. The Warriors would finally get a recognizable name who could help them in a major way.

Williamson is currently on a $197 million contract with the Pelicans. Golden State should make a move to excite the fanbase, and acquiring a former first overall pick would certainly be one way to do it.
