Kevin Durant proved to be exactly what the doctor ordered for the Golden State Warriors in the late 2010s.
The mesmerizing 6-foot-11 scoring machine signed with the Dubs in 2016 following a less-than-ideal postseason with the Oklahoma City Thunder and helped Golden State capture two titles in three seasons.
Although Durant departed the Dubs after the 2018-19 season, he has remained a high-level scorer who’s near unstoppable to stop when he’s in a rhythm. The Texas product is averaging 26.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists with the Houston Rockets this season, shooting 51.0% from the field and 40.4% from three.
After efficiently recording 35 points against the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday, the 37-year-old Warriors outcast made basketball history that’s never been done before by an NBA forward.
“Kevin Durant now has the most games by a forward in NBA history with 35+ points on 75%+ true shooting,” Real App stated on X/Twitter after the contest.
It’s safe to say the Rockets hit the jackpot this summer by acquiring Durant in a historic seven-team trade. While Houston showed promise a year ago as a young, up-and-coming Western Conference squad, it felt as though the organization needed to make a splash and raise its ceiling drastically.
Fortunately, Houston did just that, which should give them supreme confidence moving forward.
