Warriors linked to blockbuster draft night trade for $112 million Pelicans rising star

The NBA Draft is finally here.

The 2026 class is expected to be among the best in recent memory, with promising young prospects such as AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson at the forefront.

One of the most interesting storylines of the prestigious offseason event will be the potential draft-night trades that franchises could make. Before the Milwaukee Bucks traded Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat on Monday night, there were rumors that the Golden State Warriors could use their No. 11 overall pick to help lure the two-time MVP to the Bay.

According to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears, the Warriors could pivot and swap their prized lottery selection for a 26-year-old New Orleans Pelicans rising star in a blockbuster draft night deal.

“It probably will depend on who's sitting there at 11 when that pick comes up,” Spears said Tuesday on the 95.7 The Game radio show.

“And there's probably a certain amount of players that Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver have on their list that could be attractive to their franchise. “If the Warriors can get Trey Murphy, I'm all for trading that pick for Trey Murphy."

Of course, Murphy isn’t on the same level as Antetokounmpo, but he’s an asset that would fit well with the Warriors’ offensive scheme. Golden State wants contributors who can catch fire from beyond the arc in the half-court/transition, and operate as decisive slashers when opponents overplay them on the perimeter.

That describes Murphy’s game in a nutshell, and with the Virginia product’s complementary defensive prowess, the Warriors have a clear reason to consider trading for him during the NBA Draft.

Murphy averaged 21.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, shooting 47.0% from the field and 37.9% from three in 66 contests. Needless to say, it’ll be interesting to see what the Dubs elect to do with the No. 11 overall pick.
