Warriors get brutal Kristaps Porzingis news after blockbuster trade

Kristaps Porzingis is Stephen Curry’s new star teammate in the Bay, as the Golden State Warriors passed on Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo in favor of the 7-foot-2 former Atlanta Hawks center.

Recent news surrounding Porzingis following the mid-week deal isn’t good for the Warriors, though.

“Steve Kerr said the Warriors' plan is to hold Kristaps Porzingis out the next three games, keep him working in San Francisco during the All-Star break, and debut him out of the break.” ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported Saturday.

Although taking a patient approach with Porzingis, who’s recovering from an Achilles injury and an illness, is probably the right approach, it’s hard to ignore that the Warriors need all the wins they can get right now.

The goal is to avoid the Play-In tournament at all costs, which will become more difficult for the Dubs to achieve with Curry (knee injury) and Porzingis sidelined.

Despite a valiant 25-point effort from Moses Moody on Saturday, the Curry-less Warriors suffered a 105-99 loss to the Luka Doncic-less Lakers. The Warriors now sit at 28-25, which is good for eighth place in the loaded Western Conference.

There’s a good chance the Dubs could lose their last two games before the All-Star break (Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs) if they don’t at least get Curry back in time.

It’s safe to say Porzingis’ tenure with the Warriors has started the way many hoped it would.
