Warriors cut ties with ex-Knicks draft pick, 6-foot-7 wing via G-League trade

The Golden State Warriors are no stranger to bringing in under-the-radar veteran talent to assist with their attempt at a career resurgence. Unfortunately, one of their latest efforts did not pan out prior to the start of the 2025-26 season.

After acquiring an ex-new York Knicks forward and assigning him to their G-League affiliate Santa Cruz Warriors for the 2024-25 campaign, the franchise seemingly had plenty to work with as he blossomed into a legitimate superstar at the G-League level.

Though the skilled 6-foot-7 combo-forward succeeded in the minor leagues, his ensuing regular season appearances with the main NBA franchise last season did not warrant a further increase in playing time. In fact, Santa Cruz reportedly chose to deal the wing to a rebuilding Eastern Conference squad.

"G League trade: The Windy City Bulls sent a 2026 1st to the Santa Cruz Warriors for Kevin Knox," Forbes' Evan Sidery shared via X on Monday afternoon.

"Knox, the No. 9 overall pick in 2018, averaged 25.3 points per game for Santa Cruz."

After being selected with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks, Knox spent three full seasons with the franchise before being traded to the Atlanta Hawks during the 2021-22 campaign.

The 26-year-old eventually made his way to Santa Cruz for a second stint in the G-League in 2024, and he took full advantage of his opportunity to shine. In 12 contests for the Warriors' G-League team, Knox averaged a whopping 25.3 points and 8.8 rebounds while compiling unreal shooting splits of 52.7% shooting from the field and a blistering 44.4% three-point percentage.

Knox's incredible G-League season led to his promotion to the main roster, but he'd go on to contribute just 3.3 points on a 26.7% shooting clip form distance in 14 games.
