"Warning shot to the world"-Texas A&M Volleyball coach opens up about turning program victory after NCAA Championships win

The Texas A&M volleyball coach, James Morrison, made his feelings known about his team's victory at the 2025 NCAA Volleyball Championships. The finals took place on December 21 at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Aggies contested against the Kentucky Wildcats for the championship title. They delivered a strong performance and ended their title drought by claiming an impressive 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-20) sweep. Some of the players who played a major role in the team's win were Logan Lednicky, Kyndal Stowers, and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla. Lednicky registered 11 kills, 1 assist, and 7 digs.

On the other hand, Stowers attained 10 kills and 2 aces, and Cos-Okpalla earned 8 kills, 2 aces, and 4 blocks. Shortly after, the team's coach, Morrison, spoke to ESPN, where he was asked about how he and the program feel about the triumph. (0:39 onwards)

"I think we sent a warning shot to the world of what it is that we're about. And, again, we can, I don't know, develop. We care about our athletes. Like, man, I'm sorry, I'm a little speechless right now," said Morrison.

The win marked Texas A&M volleyball's first-ever NCAA championship win in school history. In this season, it was the only team to defeat the unbeaten No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team.

In the aforementioned interview with ESPN, the Texas A&M volleyball team's coach, James Morrison, also spoke about the nine seniors on his team. When asked about what those girls mean to him, he expressed gratitude for having them on the team.

Morrison shed light on their work culture, highlighting the way they interact as teammates, the way they interact between the coach and players, and more. Stating that they built the team, he said: (0:52 onwards)

"I mean, they help build everything. And again, it's either people that decided to stay here because of a belief in what could be, and it's some people that other people that bought into what could be and decided to come here. And I just again, I thank them every single day that like they stuck this out that again, it wasn't easy," said Texas A&M's coach.

She added:

"It was like changing the culture and the way that we work and the way that we act, the way we interact as teammates, the way we interact between coaches and players. And, man, yeah, I'm so excited for them also to see the fruition of that, not just build it. So, I'm beyond words."

In the pre-match press conference, the Texas A&M coach credited the seniors for building a lasting legacy beyond the NCAA Volleyball Championship final.
