Jacob Maldonado is getting to continue his football career at the next level in wide receiver.

In a recent game, the Cleveland senior showed why he is one of New Mexico's top recruits.

Maldonado, who is committed to play next season at the University of New Mexico, caught 10 passes for 154 yards and a TD to help lift the Storm past Cibola, 27-6.

For his efforts, Maldonado was voted as the Week 8 winner of The Sporting News New Mexico Player of the Week.

Arrey, a junior running back, ran for 125 yards on 14 carries and a TD as the Colts, who were winless in District 2-4A, upended Chaparral, 21-13.

William Braun, Albuquerque Academy

A junior quarterback, Braun completed 11-of-19 passes for 208 yards and four TDs as the Chargers defeated Manzano, 43-15.

Robert Castaneda, Carlsbad

Castaneda, a senior receiver, caught nine passes for 205 yards and two TDs as the Cavemen won at Alamogordo, 30-25. He also punted twice, with a long of 62 yards.

David Chavez, Santa Rosa

A senior running back/linebacker, Chavez made an impact on both sides of the ball as the Lions moved to 7-0 after a 47-0 win against Estancia. Chavez rushed for 117 yards on six carries and two TDs while on defense, he recorded a whopping 20 total tackles, five solo stops and two tackles for loss.

Jhett Kinghorn, La Cueva

Kinghorn, a senior defensive back, had four solo tackles and two interceptions - returning one 42 yards for a TD - and recovered a fumble for the Bears in their 54-35 win at Los Lunas. He also had another TD by recovering a blocked punt in the end zone.

Alberto Landeros, Albuquerque High

A senior running back, Landeros rushed for 286 yards on 20 carries with three TDs in the Bulldogs’ 34-27 win against West Mesa.

Junior Medrano, Hobbs

Medrano, a junior quarterback, accounted for more than 300 yards of total offense in the Eagles’ 45-33 win against Las Cruces Centennial. He completed 13-of-21 passes for 154 yards and four TDs while adding 151 yards rushing on 16 carries with a TD.

Ismael Mendez III, Volcano Vista

Mendez caught six passes for 98 yards and had a TD as the Hawks picked up a 29-7 win at Farmington.

RJ Montoya, Albuquerque Hope Christian

Montoya, a senior quarterback, accounted for 162 yards of total offense and all three TDs in the Huskies’ 21-20 win against Pojoaque Valley.

Jahari Morehead, Eldorado

A junior, Morehead ran back a kickoff for a TD and preserved the Golden Eagles’ 53-50 win against Sandia by picking off a pass in the end zone on the game’s last play.

Jasper Nelson, Santa Fe

Nelson rushed for 231 yards on 35 carries and scored two TDs to help lift the Demons past Albuquerque Atrisco Heritage, 27-22.

Hershul Olloway Jr., Albuquerque St. Pius X

Olloway, a junior running back, carried the ball 14 times for 189 yards and two TDs and also caught three passes for 59 yards in the Sartans’ 45-7 win against Portales.

Lorenzo Sedillo-Urban, Albuquerque Legacy Academy

Sedillo-Urban, a senior quarterback, completed just six passes but four went for TDs as the Silverbacks defeated Capitan, 48-6.

Micah Takahashi, Rio Rancho

Takahashi, a junior quarterback, completed 18-of-23 passes for 289 yards and two TDs and added 72 yards rushing on 12 carries and two more scores in the Rams’ 34-13 win against Piedra Vista.
