Voters need to look past election-rigging and back Prop. 39

California’s courts are going to allow Democrats to distort the title of the Voter ID initiative — so it’s going to be up to voters to look past the dirty tricks and vote for what’s right.

On Thursday, a court in Sacramento allowed Attorney General Rob Bonta to flip the meaning of the Voter ID initiative on its head.

Originally, Proposition 39 was described as an initiative that “Establishes additional voter identification and citizenship verification requirements.” That’s the title Bonta’s office originally gave it.

Then, at the last minute, Bonta changed the description to: “Prohibits citizens from voting unless they present government-issued identification.”

That’s an argument against the initiative, not a fair or honest description.

Bonta and the Democrats are trying to rig the election. It’s plain as day.

And it’s not the first time they have abused their power this way.

Back in 2018, then-Attorney General Xavier Becerra (who is now running for governor) changed the name of Proposition 6, which would have repealed an unpopular increase in the gas tax.

Becerra changed the description to read: “Eliminates certain road repair and transportation funding.”

It’s the same move: Turn a positive into a negative, and hope enough people will be fooled.

It worked in 2018, which is why Californians are paying higher gas taxes today.

Democrats claim voter fraud never happens but are terrified of voter ID.

If fraud is so rare, then no citizens would be “prohibited from voting,” as the new title suggests.

But if fraud is actually more common — then, yes, some people, primarily noncitizens, would be unable to vote.

If Democrats had nothing to hide, they’d back Proposition 39 and leave the language exactly as it first was.

After all, we require ID for almost everything else.

In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani is going to require ID for his government-subsidized grocery stores.

So it’s a requirement to buy groceries, but not to vote? If asking for ID is “racist” in a polling place, how much more racist it must be to ask for ID when people are simply trying to buy food!

The courts aren’t going to resolve this. They didn’t in 2018, and they won’t now. They give broad leeway to Democrats to do what they like.

So this one is going to be up to the voters.
