VJ Edgecombe speaks out after earning Rising Stars MVP award

If it weren't for the success of both Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel, many more people would be talking about the performances of VJ Edgecombe.

NBA All-Star weekend Friday night saw Edgecombe prove himself once more as he led Vince Carter's team to multiple victories and ultimately lifted up the Rising Stars trophy and the Rising Stars MVP.

Despite being taken as the third pick in the Rising Stars draft, Edgecombe outdueled other star rookies and sophomores around the NBA.

In his first matchup against Team T-Mac (coached by Tracy McGrady), led by Kon Knueppel, Edgecombe showcased his plethora of skills, finishing with 17 of the teams' 41 points to go along with five rebounds and one assist. Edgecombe was particularly hot from downtown, connecting on 3-of-4 three-pointers.

In the finals against Team Melo (coached by Carmelo Anthony), Edgecombe led his team in scoring again, ending with six of the teams' 25 points in what ended as a one-point victory.

Edgecombe ended the game with game-winning free throws after being fouled by Portland Trail Blazers center Donovan Clingan.

Following the game, Edgecombe spoke about the experience saying: "We all decided we were going to compete. And I told Vince (Carter), that if he picked me, we were going to win it."

Now, Edgecombe will have plenty of time to rest this weekend before re-joining the 76ers after the All-Star break.

Philadelphia will return to action Feb. 19 at home against the Atlanta Hawks. Then, they'll head out on a three-game road trip.
