What Will Virgin River Season 8 Be About? Benjamin Hollingsworth And Zibby Allen Weigh In

Virgin River Season 8 will continue to tell unfinished Season 7 finale stories and follow our favorite small-town characters. We’ll see Mel and Jack’s parenthood journey progress, learn how the Hope/Doc/Roland love triangle unfolds, and crucially learn Brady’s fate!

“We don’t know if Brady survives. So if he’s back in Season 8, it’d be great to see him and Brie have some great sort of moment in their life that they could enjoy for a minute. I don’t even know that there’s a world in which Brady can have nice things. I always say he’s one of those people who just can’t have it. I don’t know if the audience is ever going to get that. So who knows? I mean, I know,” Hollingsworth told DECIDER over Zoom.

If Brady does pull through, Hollingsworth and Allen have some Season 8 hopes. “I haven’t worked with a lot of the cast extensively, because Brady’s often to the side of the town. So people like Doc, who’s played by Tim Matheson, would be amazing to work with, and to have more scenes with the townspeople. Just to see him against a different energy would be really fun,” Hollingsworth said.

The Virgin River star would also love to direct an episode one day! “I actually shadowed a director on Episode 9 and 10, because they do a block. Felipe Rodriguez, who’s a fantastic director. He directed the pool table scene and the motorcycle scene,” he said. “I would love to direct an episode at some point if they trust me enough to do so. I graduated from a pretty intense conservatory program after three years when I was like 19 to 21. So I really do have that training and understanding of the acting craft that allows me to communicate with actors.”

As for Allen, she’s happy with what she’s heard of Brie’s Season 8 arc. “I think the writers have a great command over what these characters need and how to get them on their journey,” she said, noting her dreams for Brie. “[I’d like to ride] more horses! They’re going to be at my brother’s farm anyway. Let’s do this! That was such a cool experience,” she said. “And I’d love to see more Brie and Brady. There were times in the last two seasons where Ben and I were like, ‘I miss you!’Because our characters have had push and pull. So hopefully, depending on what happens with Brady’s accident, we’ll at least see them navigate a relationship in real terms for once.”

Who’s Leaving Virgin River In Season 8? Two Longtime Cast Members Are Departing After Season 7

Two people fans won’t see in Virgin River Season 8 are Marco Grazzini, who plays Mike Valenzuela, and  Lauren Hammersley, who’s played Charmaine since Season 1. While Char and Mike are leaving Virgin River, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Deadline that both characters could return in subsequent seasons, should the story allow.

How Many Episodes Will Be In Virgin River Season 8?

Like seasons past, Virgin River Season 8 will likely consist of 10 episodes. And if the past two seasons were any indication, we’ll likely get another full drop.
