The Minnesota Vikings are trying to recapture that Sam Darnold magic.
After J.J. McCarthy, for the most part, failed to uphold his end of the bargain last season, going 6-4 in his 10 starts, the Vikings might have a feeling that J.J. isn't their guy.
Enter Kyler Murray, who was signed this offseason, in what is a surefire signal that Minnesota wants a true QB competition this offseason.
Not only that, but the Vikings want Murray to be their next Darnold and power this team to the postseason.
And it's something that NFL.com's Jeffri Chadiha thinks he can do.
"The Vikings signed Murray to compete with third-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy for the starting job," Chadiha wrote. "That's the kind of thing teams are supposed to say, even if they already sense a former first-round pick is heading in the wrong direction.
"The Vikings need somebody to lead their team in the NFC North, which is filled with serious playoff contenders. Darnold proved he could do that two years ago. Murray has enough ability to do the same things this fall."

Murray Vikings' next Darnold?
Well, that would be the hope, right? Unless McCarthy completely outshines Kyler in the offseason workouts and is named the starter.
But if what everyone thinks will happen actually happens, then Murray will be at the helm of an offense with serious weapons.
The Vikings floundered a little last season, mostly due to injuries at the quarterback spot, but if they can get a full season out of Murray, there is every chance that Minnesota is a playoff team in 2026.
And if he can achieve that, the Vikings might have found their next Darnold.
