Keeping Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson out, keeping the veteran healthy for the remainder of the year is a much bigger priority than winning a Week 5 game against a Dolphins team that they already knew they were likely going to beat.
As for how things will look in the future, that won't be the case all year. Minnesota has some very difficult games coming up, including one against the New Orleans Saints on the road in Week 5.
It will be a short week for the Saints as they took on the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football, but they're still a very good football team with a chance to beat Minnesota and give it its first loss of the season.
As for when Jefferson could return, it sounds like it's in play for that to happen this week. Speaking to reporters after the game against the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon, head coach Kevin O'Connell made it seem like it was a possibility that Jefferson would be in the mix to play in Week 5.
“I know he made great progress last week. We’re going to allow that to be a medical thing from the standpoint of if he’s able to start getting some limited work in,” O’Connell said to reporters about Jefferson, H/T Heavy. “We’ll see how he does throughout the week.
“I don’t have any real projection on if we’ll have him or not. I think it’s important to go into the week open minded. He’s so impactful and so important to us. But at the same time, we want to get him back to 100%.”
Jefferson, arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, has had a great year once again.
He's dealt with this injury, but outside of that, he was playing very good football.
