Vikings get concerning injury update on linebacker and former All-Pro DB

The Minnesota Vikings made a very interesting offseason addition, bringing in veteran defensive back Jamal Adams. But he wasn't joining the DB group; he was going to be a linebacker for Brian Flores.

There was some optimism about his fit on this defense, especially with Flores. But during the first preseason game, Adams sustained an injury to his lower body that, unfortunately, isn't looking good.

According to the Vikings on social media, head coach Kevin O'Connell revealed that Adams' injury is to his right knee, and the initial results "don't look good."

Jamal Adam injury results 'don't look good' for Vikings

"Head Coach Kevin O'Connell has said that Jamal Adams has suffered a right knee injury in today's game and that initial examinations don't look good," the Vikings shared.

This is not a good sign for the Vikings and Adams, as O'Connell's update likely means it's a serious injury for the veteran defender.

Adams is 30 years old and is a three-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro. But those accolades came in the first four years of his career, and he's not been a high-impact player the last couple of seasons.

In 2025, he played with the Las Vegas Raiders, appearing in 17 games, starting four, and recording one forced fumble, one sack, and 45 tackles with five tackles for loss and two quarterback hits in his debut season at the linebacker position.

Adams joined the Vikings defense as a linebacker and was meant to play a role for Flores' defense. But now, he's likely to miss some time, though the full extent of the injury isn't known.

But O'Connell revealing that the initial results for this injury to Adams "don't look good" is a sign that Adams is not healthy and will be out for a while. The only question is how long he'll be sidelined with this knee injury.
