The New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs are preparing for the third annual NBA Cup Final on Tuesday night when the two squads face off in Las Vegas.
The Spurs had to take down a one-loss Oklahoma City Thunder team to get to the championship round, while the Knicks defeated a hot Orlando Magic squad to earn the right to play in the final.
Victor Wembanyama, arguably the most high-profile player in the league right now, interviewed with NBA insider Chris Haynes ahead of the final matchup and revealed his thoughts on the opposing Knicks squad.
Victor Wembanyama on facing the Knicks
When asked what it would take to beat the Knicks, Wemby was honest in his assessment.
"Definitely matching the physicality, running the floor, and rebounding after guarding them in the half-court. They don't play a brand of basketball as sophisticated as the Miami Heat or the Thunder, but their physicality is top in the league, so it's a very tough team to play against," Wembanyama told Haynes.
Clearly, the French-phenom has a lot of respect for New York and isn't planning on taking his opponent lightly.
Wembanyama came off the bench in the Spurs' semifinal win over Oklahoma City. It was his first game back after an extended injury absence.
It remains to be seen if the MVP candidate will have a full workload tonight.
