Victor Wembanyama has already produced some extraordinary performances during his NBA career, but Wednesday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks belonged in a category of its own.
The San Antonio Spurs superstar finished with a career-high 52 points, a career-best 24 rebounds and eight blocked shots in a 112-111 victory over Dallas. The performance helped San Antonio secure its sixth consecutive win and improve to 6-2.
The Mavericks nearly completed a remarkable comeback, but Wembanyama's presence on both ends ultimately proved too much.
Dallas couldn't solve the Wembanyama problem
Wembanyama's offensive production was impressive enough, but his defensive impact made the performance even more difficult to overcome.

— ESPN Insights (@ESPNInsights) November 5, 2026The Spurs center blocked eight shots and repeatedly challenged Dallas players around the basket. His length and timing forced the Mavericks to reconsider shots that might have been comfortable opportunities against other opponents.
Wembanyama also controlled the glass, finishing with 24 rebounds while giving San Antonio additional opportunities to maintain possession.
His scoring and rebounding totals both established new personal bests, demonstrating the growing range of ways he can influence a game.
Mavericks nearly completed the comeback
Dallas refused to disappear after falling behind by a significant margin. Kyrie Irving finished with 29 points, while Naji Marshall contributed 22 and P.J. Washington added 21. The Mavericks used a strong second half to erase much of their deficit and eventually tied the game at 111.
But Wembanyama made the decisive free throw with 24.2 seconds remaining.
Dallas had one final opportunity, but Irving missed a difficult shot in the closing seconds. The Mavericks dropped to 4-4, while San Antonio continued its impressive early-season run.

San Antonio has a genuine superstar advantage
The Spurs have built an exciting roster around Wembanyama, but Wednesday provided another reminder that their biggest advantage remains the unique skill set of their franchise player.
Few opponents have a realistic answer for someone capable of scoring more than 50 points while also dominating the rebounding and shot-blocking categories.
Dallas had enough offensive production to make the game competitive, particularly after halftime.
But Wembanyama's extraordinary performance gave San Antonio the difference it needed.
The Spurs are winning games, and their superstar is producing numbers that demand attention throughout the league.
