Victor Wembanyama makes history ahead of clash vs. Detroit

The San Antonio Spurs are proving themselves to be the biggest challenger to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference, riding an eight-game winning streak.

In their last matchup, they cruised to a 17-point victory over the Sacramento Kings, finishing with six different scorers in double-figures.

Throughout their streak, San Antonio has seen more dominance from star center Victor Wembanyama. In the last eight games, Wembanyama has accumulated 203 points, 25 blocked shots and 15 three-pointers made. In doing so, Wembanyama became the first player in NBA history to put up those numbers during an eight-game winning streak. That averages to be over 25 points per game, 3.1 blocks per game and 1.8 made three-pointers per game.

Wembanyama and San Antonio will put that streak on the line again Monday, squaring off against the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons, led by Cade Cunningham are in the midst of their own winning streak, having won their last five in a row.

The matchup is set to provide many great head-to-head battles, as Wembanyama will clash with Pistons' center and first-time All-Star Jalen Duren. As for Cunningham, he'll match up against two-time All-Star De'Aaron Fox who made the team for the first time as an injury replacement.

With the two juggernauts separated by 2.5 games, the league is set for a special showcase between two of the best young teams.

Following Monday's game, the Spurs will continue a five-game road trip against the Toronto Raptors Wednesday. As for the Pistons, they'll remain at home to face last year's champions, Oklahoma City.
