SAN ANTONIO — The Knicks didn’t win Game 2. Victor Wembanyama lost it.
But that’s OK. That’s also how championships are won. A historic streak doesn’t always require excellence from the winner. It sometimes unfolds because of blunders from the opposition, and Wembanyama, “The “Alien” who is trying to stake his claim as the next face of the league, offered enough to give New York a 105-104 win Friday.
“I’m still very blurry,” Wembanyama acknowledged. “That’s the whole problem. I need to have more poise, more control over the game.”
With 33 seconds left in a tie game, Wembanyama received an inbounds pass near the corner. Mitchell Robinson, the only Knick who can come close to matching Wemby’s 7-foot-4 frame, guarded him tightly.
