Victor Wembanyama contract details

  • Years: Five
  • Contract value: $252 million

Wembanyama left some money on the table with his contract extension, opting for the maxium rookie-scale extension as opposed to the supermax, which he was also eligible for.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Spurs presented Wembanyama and his representatives with a number of offers, including the supermax. The spindly talent opted for the maximum extension, instead, spurning $51 million in the process.

The 22-year-old will command 25 percent of the Spurs' yearly salary as opposed to the 30 percent figure that the supermax would guarantee. Wembanyama looks to have prioritized salary cap flexibility instead of securing the biggest payday possible. Wembanyama will help that San Antonio can replay his sacrifice by surrounding him with additional talent as the Spurs look to compete in the years to come.
