The San Antonio Spurs have been superb in the 2025-26 season, but they are still not the most experienced team. With Victor Wembanyama only in his third NBA season, he has never reached the Playoffs with the Spurs, so he and the team want to succeed.
To do that, they need to compete and beat the best of the best. This season, they have played against the New York Knicks multiple times, including the NBA Cup Final. Unfortunately, the Spurs continue to struggle against the Knicks, including their matchup on Sunday.
Wembanyama wants the Spurs to beat title contenders
With their performances this season, the Spurs have continued to build big expectations for themselves. They are the only team that is close to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference, which continues to boost their reputation.
While they have been superb against the Thunder, the Spurs have shown that they need to grow more to be truly competitive in the postseason. Of course, they are filled to the brim with promising young players, but they need to develop faster if they want to succeed this season.

The time is not up for the Spurs because they have a long future ahead of them. However, they can capitalize on being one of the best teams this season. Wembanyama knows this, which is why he is hungry to get a win against teams like the Knicks.
"I don't see any regression. I think it's good for us to see this kind of adversity. We want to play the best teams. This is a top-seeded playoff team, experienced. They know what it's like, and they gave us a good showing today," Wembanyama said after losing to the Knicks.
Moving forward, the Spurs have plenty of obstacles to overcome. They are developing with mostly young players, but De'Aaron Fox will be helpful in serving as the team's veteran leader.
