The San Antonio Spurs have elevated themselves into the second seed in the Western Conference this season. It comes after a pretty mediocre campaign in the 2024-25 season when they did not even make the Play-In Tournament.
Their success has been mostly because everyone has improved their performance. As the franchise player, Victor Wembanyama is at the forefront of their success. He tends to get the biggest highlight every night that goes viral, but he admits he does not want to get caught up in the hype.
Wembanyama remains subdued amid his many highlight plays
Over the past three seasons, the NBA has gotten accustomed to seeing Wembanyama pull off massive plays. Of course, they are still breathtaking because he can block shots at impossible heights, or he can regularly take step-back threes as a 7'5" player.
He is always in the headlines because of these amazing plays. For most players, it is easy to get caught up in the highlights because that is human nature. However, Wemby is not that type of person because he wants to remain humble and level-headed.

Against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday, Wembanyama had yet another amazing highlight. The Hornets' Coby White tried to get a shot up, but Wembanyama managed to block the shot into the backboard. At the same time, Wemby bounced it back to himself and proceeded to start the fast break.
That is the type of play that goes viral, which was the main topic during Wemby's interview with the Prime Video NBA broadcast crew.
"I'm thinking at the end of the day, it's fun, right? I don't love to like look at my highlights too much. Of course, it's free dopamine looking at those plays. I think it's better to stay away from it a little bit," Wembanyama said to the Prime Video crew.
Wembanyama cannot avoid every highlight on his social media, but he will do his best not to get caught up in the hype. He wants to stay level-headed because if he lets the hype get to him, he might make mistakes or chase highlights. It is a healthy mindset that will take him to the top.
