Varun Chakaravarthy takes 2 wickets in 2 balls to bring India back in AUS vs IND 2025 3rd T20I [Watch]

Varun Chakaravarthy shifted the momentum in India’s favor after Tim David’s onslaught in the third T20I against Australia in Hobart on Sunday, November 2. The World No. 1-ranked bowler dismissed captain Mitchell Marsh (11 off 14) and Mitchell Owen (golden duck) off back-to-back deliveries, reducing the hosts to 73/4.

The dismissals came in the ninth over of Australia’s innings. Chakaravarthy bowled a tossed-up delivery to remove Marsh, who lofted the ball high up in the air, and Tilak Varma completed a regulation catch at long-off.

The leg-spinner then bowled a googly to knock over Owen. The batter went for a cut, but the ball sneaked past the bat and pad gap to crash into the stumps. The 34-year-old was on a hat-trick before Marcus Stoinis survived the next delivery.

Varun Chakaravarthy had also bagged two wickets in the second T20I. He has bagged 23 wickets in 13 matches, barring the ongoing game against Australia, this year.

Varun Chakaravarthy and Arshdeep Singh struck twice while Tim David slammed a quickfire fifty as India and Australia's third T20I was evenly poised. Apart from Varun, Arshdeep removed Travis Head and Josh Inglis for single-digit scores in the power play.

At the time of writing, the Aussies were 130/5 after 15 overs, with Marcus Stoinis (35 off 22) and Matthew Short (2 off 4) at the crease. Shivam Dube dismissed Tim David for 74 runs off 38 deliveries.

The Mitchell Marsh-led side has already taken a 1-0 lead against India in the five-match T20Is series. They won the second T20I by four wickets after the tourists were bundled out for 125 in Melbourne. Notably, the series opener was abandoned due to rain. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side would be keen to bounce back and level the series 1-1.
