As someone who grew up in The Bahamas, V.J. Edgecombe has immense love for his home country. He immigrated when he was in ninth grade, but he never lost love for his country, even when he reached the NBA to play for the Philadelphia 76ers.
He regularly plays for the national basketball team alongside the likes of Deandre Ayton, Buddy Hield, and Eric Gordon. While it is unlikely, Edgecombe wants to win some medals with the team.
V.J. Edgecombe reveals his desire to win with The Bahamas over the 76ers
Considering The Bahamas are not seen as a powerful team in the international scene, it is perfectly normal to have pipe dreams. Edgecombe would be amazed if they manage to compete at the highest level against Team USA or Canada.
With the 76ers, Edgecombe has a legitimate shot at winning a championship. That is especially more likely with the additions of Jaylen Brown and LeBron James. However, it seems Edgecombe does have goals beyond his NBA team.

Playing for The Bahamas has always been an honor for Edgecombe. However, he would love to bring home some team accolades for The Bahamas and bring pride to the people of his nation.
"I'll be honest, that's more important. This might sound crazy, but I’d rather do that than win an NBA championship," Edgecombe said on Brown's Twitch stream.
While it might sound like a bold statement for some people, it is important to understand the context, especially for international players. Edgecombe wants to bring success to his nation, and it is hard to fault him for that.
