Caleb Williams' rookie season wasn't beholden to that of a transcendent first overall pick. His counting stats looked adequate on paper, but he compiled a fair share of "garbage time" numbers to mask his struggles.
Heading into his second campaign, the Chicago Bears have done everything to coddle their star quarterback.
From hiring offensive guru Ben Johnson to be the new head coach to drafting a pair of high-profile pass catchers in Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III, it's clear the organization is putting Williams in a premium position to succeed.
That's why one national analyst thinks Chicago will be one of the most interesting stories in the league in 2025.
While on a recent episode of his show "The Herd," Colin Cowherd explained why he's intrigued by Williams and the Bears.
"Nobody disputes Williams' talent," Cowherd said. "He's creative and strong—those are traits, but all the things he struggles with are improvable. Sometimes I think he plays a little hero ball. There's such a wide range of outcomes for Williams; it comes down to whether he can take to coaching."
The 23-year-old's glaring weakness is a lack of an internal clock, and his struggles with timing within the pocket.
At USC, Williams had a habit of killing drives by holding on to the rock and taking disastrous sacks, and that's only gotten worse in his short stint in Chicago.
If Johnson can't get through to Williams and harness his undeniable arm, then it's hard to imagine he will ever succeed as a pro.
