No. 20 USC pulled off a fake punt for the ages on Friday night against Northwestern.
Lincoln Riley sent out third-string quarterback Sam Huard in a No. 80 jersey, the same one worn by punter Sam Johnson. The trickery was legal with the signal-caller listed under the number for this game specifically. A clear break from Huard's normal No. 7, but it worked.
Huard came on the field with the punt team in the second quarter and completed a 10-yard pass to Tanook Hines. The first down extended the Trojans' second drive, which ended with a TD run by Jayden Maiava.
So, 3rd string QB Sam Huard dressed up as punter Sam Johnson, wearing same number, to complete this fake punt for USC.

USC is one of many programs in the nation to have players using the same numbers.
Northwestern was caught off guard by the play from the former five-star passer, who is listed as being two inches shorter and 15 pounds lighter than Johnson.
Huard comes from a family of NFL quarterbacks. His father, Damon, spent 14 seasons in the league and won two Super Bowls as a backup to Tom Brady in New England. As for his Uncle, Brock, the six-year veteran was a backup during Peyton Manning's time with the Indianapolis Colts before transitioning into broadcasting and now coaching at Valor Christian High School outside of Denver.
