USC guard headed to San Antonio to fight for two-way contract

San Antonio is planning their program with the future in mind. The Spurs have a strong foundation in 2023 first overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama, and made moves to build around him during the two-night 2025 NBA Draft in Brooklyn.

The team secured top talents — using the second overall pick on Rutgers guard Dylan Harper, plus their No. 14 pick by selecting Alabama forward Carter Bryant. Their second round pick and 38th overall, Marquette’s Kam Jones, was traded to the Indiana Pacers for a second round pick in the 2030 draft and cash considerations.

When the draft concluded Thursday night, the Spurs weren’t done. San Antonio extended a Summer League invite to USC Trojans guard Chibuzo Agbo.

The 6-foot-7 San Diego native has a high basketball IQ and ranked in the top 10% of college players in half-court efficiency last season.

Agbo’s shooting is reinforced by his ability as a scoring threat.

“Buzo was one of the best perimeter shooters we’ve had the opportunity to coach,” Musselman tweeted Friday morning as he wished the guard luck in San Antonio.

With the Trojans, Agbo played in 33 games and was strong at the foul line, shooting 86.1%. He shot 39.6% from beyond the arc, making 76 of 192 attempts, and maintained a 41.1% field goal accuracy. Agbo contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double in USC’s double overtime win (97-89) over Rutgers in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

The graduate student played his first two seasons at Texas Tech before transferring to Boise State. There, he improved his 2-point shooting percentage from 38% as a junior to 50% as a senior and was an all-conference honorable mention.

As a member of the Summer League roster, Agbo is vying against other undrafted athletes for a two-way contract and spot in the G league.

San Antonio finished last season 34-48. It relied largely on center Victor Wembanyama, and guards De’Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell for point production. If offered a contract, Agbo is an athlete the Spurs could develop into a strong franchise player.
