A new era has begun in Chapel Hill, as long-time New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is set to be the North Carolina Tar Heels' next head coach following the tenure of Mack Brown. As College Football adopts more of a professional model, Belichick hopes to make a smooth transition and chase an ACC Conference Championship victory that the program hasn’t had in almost 40 years.
Earlier today, details were revealed regarding Belichick’s contract with the Tar Heels, breaking down the unique bonuses he can receive, such as finishing ranked in the final AP Top 25 and making an appearance in the College Football Playoff. While it would be quite the accomplishment, Belichick can earn a staggering $1.75 million with a National Championship win.
Outside of the cash incentives that Belichick can earn for on-field success with North Carolina, he also has some fun perks included in the deal as well. These perks include the following:
- Membership to Chapel Hill Country Club, with guest privileges for staff members and their families
- Four tickets to all home North Carolina sporting events
- Access to a suite for all home games and access to the Athletic Director’s suite for road games
- Use of a private jet for up to 25 hours per contract year
- $100,000 for relocation/moving expenses
- Vehicle allowance or use of a leased vehicle
- Say in North Carolina’s scheduled competition during his contract term
While he will be starting a new life in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels made sure that Belichick has all the perks to keep him from potentially seeking a return to the NFL, which he’s already shut down recently.
As Belichick continues to build out his roster and bring in transfers for the 2025 season, he is set to make his coaching debut with North Carolina on September 1st when they welcome TCU to Chapel Hill at 7:30 PM EST on ESPN.
