Five days ago, Caleb Wilson fractured his hand with an ‘indefinite’ timetable to return. But now there seems to be an update to his status. According to Yahoo Sports and Tar Heels coach Hubert Davis, the former five-star is expected to return to game action “soon”.

Wilson intends to play with a cast on his non-shooting hand. On Monday, Davis elaborated on Wilson’s situation.

"Caleb, he is great," Davis said Monday night on his semi-weekly radio show. “I think if I said 'OK,' I think he would play with his cast on or his splint. I think he would. He's just champing at the bit to come back because obviously he loves to play, but he loves his teammates and he loves playing here."

Wilson received in game x-rays after the injury that came back negative. It was not until they returned to Chapel Hill to conduct additional imaging that the evidence of a bone fracture was identified.

At the time of his injury, Wilson was averaging just a shade under 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. As an active defender he was also averaging 1.5 steals and almost 1.5 blocks per game.

The freshman has also set a Tar Heel record. He is the first Tar Heel in program history to reach double digit scoring in each of his first 24 games. He also has seventeen 20-point games early in his college career, also a UNC record.

"You will not have a better player, person and teammate than Caleb," Davis said via ESPN. "It's just impossible. There is just no way you can do it. What a great example of when things weren't particularly going his way in regards to his hand, he's still a great teammate."

North Carolina is currently 20-5 (8-4 ACC) as they prepare to take on North Carolina State on Tuesday, February 17. That game will tip off at 7:00pm EST and broadcast on ESPN.
