UNC dealt major blow with unfortunate Caleb Wilson news

Freshman star Caleb Wilson suffered a fractured left wrist during Tuesday’s loss to Miami Hurricanes, North Carolina officials confirmed Thursday.

Wilson was initially believed to have sustained a sprain after X-rays taken during the game came back negative. However, additional imaging performed in Chapel Hill revealed the fracture.

At the 15:50 mark of the second half, Wilson approached coach Hubert Davis during a stoppage in play and gestured toward his left hand. He later returned to action against the Hurricanes but appeared limited.

“The evaluation process is ongoing to determine the timetable for Wilson’s return,” the school said in a statement.

The Atlanta native leads the Tar Heels with 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, ranking fourth in the ACC in scoring and third in rebounding. Wilson has scored in double figures in all 24 games to open his career, setting a UNC freshman record, and has 17 20-point performances.

He finished Tuesday’s game with 12 points, which was his lowest output of the season on 4-of-10 shooting. The injury limited him to 26 minutes, his lowest total in conference play.

In Saturday’s win over No. 4 Duke, Wilson scored 17 first-half points against Cameron Boozer and finished with 23.

North Carolina hosts the Pittsburgh on Saturday in Chapel Hill.
