The new season of UEFA Champions League football brings new excitement, new thrills, new anticipation, and new star performances across the world's most prestigious club football competition.
Top teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, and many others have and will clash across 2025/26 to crown one European champion for the season. Last season's title winners Paris Saint-Germain will, for the first time in club history, look to defend their status as continental kings.
From the league phase through the knockouts and culminating in the famous Champions League final at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany on May 31, much will depend on the efficiency of each team's leading scorers. Will we see another surprising contender such as Raphinha did last season, or will Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe simply prove too good in front of goal?
It seems the latter is true as Mbappe runs away with the 2025/26 award, even after shaking off an injury. Unfortunately, he will not be able to catch Cristiano Ronaldo's single-season Champions League record of 17 in 2013/14, as Real Madrid have been dumped from the competition in the quarterfinals. Now the question remains, can Harry Kane catch him at the top of the standings? He got within two on a penalty that began the breathless goal-fest of PSG's 5-4 semifinal first leg win over Bayern.
The Sporting News will bring you the latest standings in this season's Champions League Golden Boot race as star performers aim for individual as well as team glory.
