WASHINGTON, D.C. — It's been 12 years since UConn and Michigan State last met in the NCAA Tournament, but that matchup served as a major step in the Huskies' quest for an improbable national championship. Could Friday night spark another UConn run?

UConn had trouble shaking Furman in the first round of this tournament, but a comfortable win over UCLA and vintage performance from Alex Karaban have Huskies fans believing a third title run in four years could be on the table. Tom Izzo and Michigan State would like to put a stop to it in the nation's capital.

While the Spartans have a Hall of Fame coach and plenty of prestige themselves, they have arguably been overlooked in an East Region loaded with historic programs and accomplished coaches. A win over Dan Hurley and UConn would ensure Izzo's squad is overlooked no more.

Michigan State cruised to wins over North Dakota State and Louisville on the opening weekend of the tournament, responding just about every time the Cardinals attempted to make a run in their second-round matchup. With Jeremy Fears Jr. coming off a 16-assist game for the Spartans and Solo Ball struggling mightily for the Huskies on the first weekend, Michigan State is hoping guard play is the difference on Friday.
