UConn's Braylon Mullins writes name in Huskies history vs. Duke

Braylon Mullins came to UConn as one of the most-hyped freshmen in the country in what will go down to be known as "The Year of the Freshmen."

But he, unlike most of the phenoms, didn't get off to a fast start. He didn't even play early in the year due to injury.

The wait was worth it. Mullins may have had a bumpy freshman campaign. But he rose to the moment when called upon.

The Huskies got a miracle deflection away from Cayden Boozer. Alex Karaban did the unselfish thing and dished to Mullins.

And there he stood, down two points, feet on the logo, one shot between him and history.

UConn has had some of the best players to ever play college basketball.

For that matter, the Huskies have had some of the best postseason runs this sport has ever seen. Kemba Walker comes to mind, of course, but UConn has very often risen to the occasion in March.

Now, if the Huskies win the whole thing, the alliterative pairing of Mullins and March will go down in Connecticut lore.

It's a story that never looked likely. Duke was up 18 at one point in the first half. The Blue Devils looked like the fully deserving No. 1 overall seed.

Even late, Cameron Boozer made a couple key shots that seemed like, probably, they'd put the game away.

But one turnover was all it took to turn the entire tide.

The odds may still have been against Mullins when he caught the ball where he did. That's not a spot that shots get made from more often than not.

You only get to shoot it once, though. The shot every kid dreams of presented itself to Mullins. He may never attempt a bigger shot in his life.

And he didn't miss.

That slow start to his first year on campus is long forgotten.

This will be forever remembered.
