The company sheds light on the 'next chapter' of its hit series
Image: UbisoftUbisoft's latest Assassin's Creed game was a blast from the past. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is a remake of the 2013 pirate adventure. As remakes become more and more common in the industry, fans have naturally wondered if more Assassin's Creed remakes are in the pipeline. In 2024, CEO Yves Guillemot hinted at such, saying, "Players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them."
His use of the plural "remakes" hinted at remakes other than just Black Flag Resynced, but Ubisoft has now confirmed the status of other Assassin's Creed games under active development.
On Thursday, Ubisoft updated fans on the status of the franchise, and touched on fan demand for additional remakes. "One thing we want to be transparent about today is that we currently have no other Assassin's Creed remake actively in development," Ubisoft said. "Our teams are already focused on the next chapter of Assassin's Creed titles, including projects you haven't heard about yet, featuring new settings and stories."
However, just because they're not actively being worked on, don't rule out the possibility of more remakes, or rereleases, sometime in the future. "Like many of you, we love the idea of revisiting our classic titles, and we'll keep exploring opportunities to bring older titles back. That door remains open because, after all... Nothing is true, everything is permitted," Ubisoft said, referencing the oft-repeated Assassin maxim.
What does the next chapter of Assassin's Creed look like?
Ubisoft has several Assassin's Creed games in the works. Assassin’s Creed Invictus, the PvP multiplayer game, recently had a private playtest where hundreds of players got to check it out. "The response to the return of PvP multiplayer was very positive," Ubisoft said. It noted that players "wanted more of the pillars that define Assassin's Creed" in Invictus, and the development team has been working for months acting on that feedback.
Codename Hexe is also in the works, but Ubisoft was a little quieter about that game. It's "making steady progress on this darker" project, though Ubisoft won't share a major update on it until some time in 2027. In the Codename Hexe section, Ubisoft also shared some sort of cryptic message without context:
ZKLWAVN MBEXNK ULYCNJ... LWY01... I#########F
// QNTMAKHX TWTEMZL. YSIZKQ AADSWX NFAAMPHP.//
No idea what that means! But surely the fans will have their theories. Next year marks 20 years of Assassin's Creed, and Ubisoft will share more of how it intends to celebrate the milestone in the coming months.
