Two Jets defenders named by NFL insider as names to watch ahead of trade deadline

At 0-7, the New York Jets should be open for business.

As head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey continue to try and reshape Gang Green in their image, it may mean parting ways with some longtime players who aren't in the future plans of the team.

In fact, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler revealed three players he's heard the most in trade talks, including two defenders who were both drafted by the Jets.

Jermaine Johnson and Michael Carter II named in trade buzz

Fowler and Dan Graziano published a piece on ESPN regarding trade rumors as we swiftly approach the early November trade deadline, naming Jets edge Jermaine Johnson and cornerback Michael Carter II as names they've heard amongst New York's defenders.

"With the trade deadline less than two weeks away, expect the Jets to consider dealing veterans to acquire draft capital and build for the future," wrote Fowler.

"Edge rusher Jermaine Johnson, corner Michael Carter II and running back Breece Hall are among the options generating interest."

Johnson and Carter, both longtime Jets, may have some trade value.

Carter II, in the first year of a three-year $30.7 million contract given to him by the previous regime, seems to have lost his role as the nickel corner on defense.

Mougey traded for Tennessee Titans cornerback Jarvis Brownlee early in the season, effectively replacing the incumbent slot defender. If New York can get that contract off the books, it would be a fairly big win.

Johnson, on the other hand, is a player still on his rookie deal. One of the Jets' three first-round selections in the 2022 NFL Draft has been great throughout his tenure in New York and has easily been their most well-rounded edge defender.

If the Jets can get a premier draft selection for his services, a trade can be palatable. But anything less than a 2026 second-round pick would be disappointing to say the least.
