The San Francisco Giants have been one of the more disappointing teams this season, having so much talent and potential on the roster.
Well, that talented roster has produced a 31-43 record, the second-worst in the National League and the sixth-worst in Major League Baseball. Since the Giants have been one of the bottom feeders in the National League this season, they'll likely be a team selling off some of their high-priced assets on their roster, including Matt Chapman.
The San Francisco Giants' Matt Chapman might be on the move at the trade deadline (Aug. 3)
Signed to an extension in 2024 (six-year, $151 million), Chapman would bring above-average defense at third base (78 defensive runs saved for his career) and has seen his bat come to life at times this season. In 73 games, the five-time Gold Glove winner is batting .252 with a .737 OPS and has racked up 17 doubles and mashed seven home runs.
"The Giants are in full-on sell mode, prepared to take offers on their high-priced players, including Chapman, Willy Adames and Rafael Devers. Chapman, who is owed $100 million over the next four years, is the most likely of the trio to be moved, as he remains an above-average glove at third base while also producing offensively (7 HR, 41 RBIs, .737 OPS in 73 games)," wrote MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

Feinsand lists: The St. Louis Cardinals, the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Yankees as teams interested in acquiring Chapman to bolster their rosters. Chapman would be an upgrade over Ryan McMahon for the Yankees, as he has failed to produce (.211 batting average with a .639 OPS).
The Phillies did make sense at one point in the season, but not anymore. Third baseman Alec Bohm struggled earlier in the season -- the former All-Star batted .157 with a .395 OPS and no home runs in 89 at-bats in April -- but has turned it on in June. Bohm is batting .305 with a .831 OPS and three home runs in 59 at-bats.
The Cardinals might also want to shy away from Chapman, given rookie third baseman Blaze Jordan's success. In the small sample size, the Cardinals prospect (25th) has produced (seven games), Jordan has eight hits, a double, a triple and a home run and driven in five RBI.
