The Minnesota Twins have been on a downward spiral the last few weeks and have fallen out of playoff contention.
Minnesota is 10 games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League Central and six games back from the third AL Wild Card spot.
The Twins have several players who may be traded in the coming days leading up to the trade deadline, and Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic predicts 2024 All-Star utility man Willi Castro will be on the move.
Castro, 28, has had a nice campaign for Minnesota. He has 10 home runs and 27 RBI while slashing .254/.342/.423 in 83 games this season. He also has eight stolen bases and had 33 in 2023.
“Castro is the best of the Twins’ six impending free agents, each of whom figures to be very available,” wrote Gleeman. “He can play anywhere defensively and he’s a switch hitter with good speed and a .741 OPS over three seasons in Minnesota, making him a smooth fit in almost any lineup. Castro was an All-Star last season and he’s having an even better 2025, so the 28-year-old should have plenty of suitors.”
Castro’s ability to play the infield and outfield is one of his best qualities. Lots of contenders need third base help, so he should net a solid return for the Twins.

A team like the Chicago Cubs is a sneaky landing spot for the 28-year-old. Rookie Matt Shaw has been their best player since the All-Star break, but their bench unit is one of the worst in Major League Baseball.
The New York Yankees are a potential suitor as well, though they just acquired Ryan McMahon to play third base.
Of course, as I said before, Castro can play anywhere. So, a team like the Yankees will still be interested in his services despite filling their biggest roster hole.
Expect Castro to be on the move to a playoff contender in the near future.
