Trent Alexander-Arnold dodges Liverpool future question after 'special goal' at Leicester

Liverpool fans face an anxious few weeks as Trent Alexander-Arnold assesses his future at Anfield.

Contract extensions have been the main topic of discussion on the red side of Merseyside in recent months with the 26-year-old coming to the end of his current deal in June.

Talks have been ongoing since the start of 2025 but with no firm update from the England international at this stage.

Talisman Mohamed Salah and club captain Virgil van Dijk have both committed their respective futures to Arne Slot's side - after previously also being out of contract in June - with the duo extending until 2027.

However, the picture for Alexander-Arnold is very different, with the 26-year-old heavily rumoured to be closing in on a free transfer switch to Real Madrid.

According to previous reports from talkSPORT, Alexander-Arnold has agreed terms on a five-year deal with the Spanish giants, worth more than £220,000 [$285,000] per week.

That has irked many Liverpool supporters, who are frustrated at an academy-produced player leaving the club for nothing despite his ambition to captain the team in future.

Alexander-Arnold returned to Slot's squad for the 1-0 Premier League win away at now-relegated Leicester City, after almost a month out through injury, with the manager hinting pre-match that his departure is not yet sealed.

The script was written for the No.66 to have a big impact at the King Power Stadium, as he came off the bench to lash home the winner, and bring Slot's charges to within one win of clinching the title.

A shirtless Alexander-Arnold celebrated with the jubilant travelling Liverpool fans after scoring - and was nudged forward by Van Dijk at full-time to receive their applause - but he slammed the door on questions over what he plans to do next.

"I have said all season that I'm not going to speak on my situation. I'm not going to go into the details," as per reports from Sky Sports, via BBC Sport.

"Days like today are always special. Scoring goals, playing and winning games, winning titles - they're special moments for me and I'm glad to do my part.

"The fans have been outstanding. They have pushed us every game and did the same today. The least they deserve is seeing us giving 100% on the pitch and win the game. It was very special."

Alexander-Arnold is not expected to give an update on his future until the EPL title is wrapped up but he could make a decision before the end of the campaign.

Real Madrid are reportedly wanting to register him for the FIFA Club World Cup in June, which would require an early release by Liverpool, if an agreement can be reached.

Liverpool can now seal the title at home to Tottenham on April 27 as they move to three points of the trophy.
