Travis Kelce reveals why he prefers to stay away from his family during bye weeks

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce opened up about his unique approach to bye weeks. The 10-time Pro Bowler explained on Wednesday why he chooses solitude and travel over staying home with family during the NFL's brief midseason breaks.

"I like to get away and recharge," Kelce said, via the "New Heights" podcast. "You know, not everybody has the same feeling, and, there's a lot of guys out there that have families and they end up staying in town and all that. But I like to get away, recharge, see something else, see a new city, feel like I'm somewhere else and kind of just shut it down. "I'll watch the games on Thursday, Sunday and Monday, but I like to kind of get away being in Kansas City for 13 years straight, for eight months out of the year. It's like that can be a nice home for somebody, but at the same time, I'm somebody I got to move my feet, man."

Kelce's approach differs from many NFL players who use bye weeks to reconnect with family, decompress at home or rest without traveling. The season demands physical and mental commitment. It includes practicing six days weekly, traveling extensively, maintaining elite conditioning, studying film endlessly and living under constant public scrutiny.

Now in his 13th season, the routine can become suffocating without breaks from familiar patterns. Kelce escapes from that stress by physically removing himself from the environment associated with it.
