Travis Hunter finally got his deal.

The two-way talent has developed a penchant for smashing through expectations in his short but starring career. On Sunday, he added another notable kill to his list, agreeing to a record-breaking four-year contract with the Jaguars.

Questions swirled regarding the nature of Hunter's rookie deal. How could his offensive and defensive gifts be contained within the terms of a first-year contract? In the end, Jacksonville settled for a creative bit of accounting — one that places him in rarefied air among non-quarterbacking talents.

Travis Hunter contract details

  • Years: Four
  • Value: $46.65 million

Hunter netted quite the deal on Sunday, racking up $11.625 million in average annual value (AAV) over the course of his contract. His deal comes with an interesting wrinkle: His signing bonus, valued at $30.57 million, is being paid entirely upfront, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

That makes him an anomaly among non-quarterbacks. He's the first non-quarterback not selected first overall to receive such an offer.

Hunter was technically untethered to the side during OTAs and mandatory minicamp. That didn't stop him from participating in the festivities. While a holdout seemed unlikely, Sunday's announcement ensures that Hunter will be available come July 19, the start of the Jaguars' training camp.
