The 2024 College Football regular season came to a close Saturday, and hundreds of teams' seasons ended as a result.
Although the 2024 transfer portal window doesn't officially open until Monday, Dec. 9, college football has already seen numerous reports of signal-callers across the country intending to enter the portal.
The transfer portal is now a vital source of recruiting for college football programs, especially in recent years. This year alone, there have been several playoff-caliber teams that have built their teams around transfer portal quarterbacks. Some of the biggest names include Notre Dame's Riley Leonard, Oregon's Dillon Gabriel, Ohio State's Will Howard and Indiana's Kurtis Rourke.

Cal QB heads to the Big Ten
Former Cal QB Fernando Mendoza is transferring to Indiana. He had 3,004 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions for the Golden Bears last season.
Sunday, Dec. 22
Charlotte transfer Deshawn Purdie heads to The Swamp
Purdie has committed to Florida. He finished his freshman year with 1,802 yards and 10 touchdowns with six interceptions. Purdie would be a longshot to start over DJ Lagway, but is an interesting player for the Gators to develop.
Penn State transfer Beau Pribula commits to Missouri
Pribula, Penn State's backup quarterback in 2024, is headed to Missouri, per CBS Sports. As a dual threat that saw the field in various packages with the Nittany Lions, Pribula totaled 275 yards and five touchdowns in the air, plus 242 yards and four scores on the ground this season.

Duke transfer Maliik Murphy commits to Oregon State
Maliik Murphy is headed to Beaverton, where he'll be looking to improve an Oregon State program that finished 5-7 this season.
“Felt like a great opportunity, and I really felt welcomed and wanted there," Murphy told ESPN's Pete Thamel. "I was made a priority and that’s all I could ask for. I’m excited to be a Beaver and get out there with the guys!”
Murphy started his career at Texas. As Duke's starter this season, he helped lead the Blue Devils to a 9-3 record while totaling 2,933 passing yards, 26 touchdowns—a school record—with 12 interceptions.

Washington State transfer John Mateer commits to Oklahoma
The No. 1 overall player in Sporting News' transfer rankings as of Wednesday, Mateer threw for 3,139 yards with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2024. The 6-1 sophomore announced his decision to flip to the Sooners on social media with a photo of himself from high school standing in front of Oklahoma's football stadium and making the "horns down" hand gesture, a favorite taunt used by Sooners fans to poke at rival Texas.
Former Liberty QB Kaidon Salter signs with Colorado
It looks like Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has found his replacement for his so, Shedeur Sanders under center for 2025. On Wednesday, former Liberty Flames quarterback Kaidon Salter committed to the Buffaloes' 2025 class. Salter has spent the last four seasons with the Flames, having thrown for 5,887 yards with 56 touchdowns and 17 interceptions over four years.

Former WKU QB lands with fifth overall team
TJ Finley started out at LSU. Then he landed at Auburn, Texas State and Western Kentucky. After hitting the portal yet again, Finley has committed to Tulane.
True Freshman Buckeye QB hits portal
Ohio State quarterback Air Noland is entering the portal. The true freshman will reportedly have four years of eligibility remaining. He was the No. 5 quarterback in last year's recruiting class.
Former Miami/Albany QB transfers to North Texas
Reese Poffenbarger is headed to North Texas. The QB has played at Miami and Albany, but picked North Texas over several Power 4 offers.
Former Maryland QB transfers to Wisconsin
Billy Edwards Jr. is transferring to Wisconsin. The Badgers will welcome the Terrapins to town on Sept. 20, 2025 so Edwards could be in for a big game, if he wins the starting job.
Utah QB Isaac Wilson withdraws name from transfer portal
Wilson initially declared for the portal on December 8, but has now decided to withdraw from the portal. He will be in the mix to be the Utes starting quarterback in 2025.
Washington State QB John Mateer expected to enter transfer portal
Mateer is expected to enter the transfer portal, per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. The sophomore QB has 29 passing touchdowns and 15 rushing touchdowns through 12 games.

Former Mississippi State QB Michael Van Buren stays in SEC.
Van Buren is transferring to LSU. This is an interesting move, as Tiger QB Garrett Nussmeier said he was returning to the school for another year. Van Buren will have three years of eligibility left. He threw for 1,886 yards and 11 touchdowns with seven interceptions last season.
Former Nebraska QB Daniel Kaelin is transferring to Virginia.
Kaelin redshirted his freshman year, so should have four years of eligibility left. He was a three-star prospect coming out of high school.
Penn State QB Beau Pribula reportedly plans to enter portal
Pribula, the Nittany Lions' backup throughout the 2024 season, will enter the transfer portal ahead of Penn State's playoff appearance, per On3's Pete Nakos. He will not appear in the playoffs. Pribula, who has two years of eligibility remaining, posted 275 yards and five touchdowns in the air, plus 242 rushing yards and four scores on the ground this season.

Former USC QB Miller Moss commits to Louisville
Moss, 22, started for USC this season, but was benched in favor of Jayden Maiva following a three-interception game. Moss has one year of eligibility remaining, and he'll spend it with the Cardinals.
Auburn quarterback Walker White reportedly enters portal
Auburn quarterback Walker White is reportedly on the move, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. Walker is a former 4-star quarterback from the class of 2024, and was the No. 8 overall signal-caller in his class. He completed just two passes for 18 yards for the Tigers this season.

Michigan's Alex Orji tells ESPN he is entering the portal
Michigan spent $12 million to flip Bryce Underwood from LSU. Even if Underwood doesn't start as a true freshman, Orji has decided to enter the portal to go to a school where he has a better chance of seeing the field with his two years of eligibility remaining. Orji only played in a handful of games in 2024, finishing with 148 passing yards, 260 rushing yards and four total touchdowns.

Maryland's Billy Edwards Jr. files to enter portal
Maryland QB Billy Edwards Jr. is entering the transfer portal after spending this past season as the Terrapins' starter. Edwards completed 65 percent of passes for 2,881 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 2024, rushing for five touchdowns as well.
Boise State quarterback Malachi Nelson is reportedly on the move
Malachi Nelson has reportedly entered the transfer portal. He started his career at USC before transferring to Boise State before the 2024 season. He has played in just three games for the Broncos, accounting for 12 completions for 128 yards with an interception. He's a former 5-star QB recruit from the class of 2023, and was the No. 5 ranked signal-caller in his class.
Abilene Christian QB Maverick McIvor reportedly enters portal
Maverick McIvor had a great career so far at Abilene, and entered the portal on Thursday. Over his three seasons there, he's thrown for 8,035 yards with 61 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. He started his career at Texas Tech from 2019-2021, but didn't see any playing time.

Former Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman is heading to Houston
While Conner Weigman started games for the Aggies across every one of the last three seasons, he never settled into the role. Now the 21-year-old from Cypress, Texas, is "coming home" to Houston for the 2025 season, he announced Wednesday.

Cal QB Fernando Mendoza reportedly enters transfer portal
The Bears' two-year starter is on the move, as Fernando Mendoza reportedly entered the portal on Wednesday. Over the last two seasons for the Bears, he's thrown for 4,712 yards with 30 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

Mississippi State QB Michael Van Buren Jr. announces portal entry
Mississippi State's Michael Van Buren Jr. hit the portal on Tuesday night, telling On3 his intentions after his freshman season in Starkville. Van Buren didn't do much winning in 2024, but he improved the Bulldogs' offense after stepping in for Blake Shapen, throwing for 1,886 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions in eight starts - including 3-TD performances against both Georgia and Texas A&M.
Western Kentucky QB Caden Veltkamp enters portal, per reports
Sophomore signal-caller Caden Veltkamp has reportedly put his name in the portal. As the Hilltoppers starting quarterback this season, he threw for 2,806 yards with 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while leading WKU to an 8-4 record.
Florida State QB Luke Kromenhoek reportedly hits portal
The Seminoles had an abysmal 2-10 finish this season, one year removed from their 13-0 regular season in 2023. Now, one of their freshmen quarterbacks appears on the move. Per Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports, Luke Kromenhoek has entered the transfer portal. In six games for the Noles this season, Kromenhoek threw for 502 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, rushing for 113 yards. A 4-star recruit, Kromenhoek was the No. 5 ranked signal-caller from the class of 2024, per 247Sports.
South Carolina QB Robby Ashford reportedly enters the transfer portal
On Tuesday afternoon, the former South Carolina and Auburn quarterback entered the portal, per reports. Ashford has had a bit of a journeyman career so far. A former 4-star recruit from the class of 2020, he started his career at Oregon from 2020-21, not seeing any game action. He then transferred to Auburn before the 2022 season, and made nine starts for the Tigers that year. He threw for 1,613 yards with seven touchdowns and seven interceptions, rushing for another 710 yards with seven scores. After starting in just one game for Auburn in 2023, he transferred to South Carolina. In Columbia, he saw action in eight games, completing 23 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns.
Walker Howard reportedly commits to Louisiana
On Monday, Ole Miss back-up quarterback Walker Howard reportedly entered the portal. On Tuesday, On3Sports reported that Howard has committed to Louisiana. Walker, a former 4-star quarterback recruit out of Lafayette, Louisiana, was the No. 5 ranked signal-caller from the class of 2022. He signed with LSU's 2022 recruiting class, and transferred to Ole Miss before the 2023 season. In his career, he's only played in six games over three seasons, completing five passes for 63 yards.
Ball State QB Kadin Semonza is entering transfer portal
Semonza is hitting the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports' Greg Biggins. He threw for 2,904 yards and 25 touchdowns with the Cardinals this year. He has three years of eligibility left after winning MAC Freshman of the Year.

Wisconsin QB Tyler Van Dyke has reportedly entered his name into the portal
Van Dyke is the latest quarterback to decide to transfer, according to Pete Nakos of On3. The 23-year-old spent four years with Miami, three of which as a starter, before transferring to Wisconsin for 2024, This year, Van Dyke appeared in just three games for the Badgers.
North Texas QB Chandler Morris is in the portal, per reports
Morris is about be on his fourth team in six years, Pete Nakos on On3 reports. Morris started his career at Oklahoma, then transferred to TCU after his freshman season, and he played for three years with the Horned Frogs. In 2024, Morris transferred to the Mean Green, where he played in 12 games and led the AAC in completions, attempts and passing yards.
Ole Miss QB Walker Howard has reportedly entered the transfer portal
The Rebels backup quarterback is on the move, according to Pete Nakos of On3. Howard is a former top 50 recruit who spent one year at LSU then transferred to Ole Miss for two seasons. In his three-year college career, Howard has just 10 passing attempts in six games played.
Louisiana-Monroe QB General Booty has entered the portal, according to reports
The former Oklahoma quarterback is about to be on his fourth team in five years, Pete Nakos of On3 reports. Booty spent his freshman season at Tyler Junior College, then transferred to Oklahoma where he played in 2022 and 2023. This season, Booty played in seven games for the Warhawks as a backup, only totaling 11 passing attempts on the year.

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze will lose another quarterback this offseason, as Hank Brown has reportedly entered the portal. A 3-star quarterback recruit out of Nashville from the class of 2024, Brown played in three games for the Tigers. He threw for 403 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. Tigers QB Payton Thorne is out of eligibility, as he spent the last two seasons at Auburn.
Tulane QB Darian Mensah has entered the portal, per reports
The Green Wave's starting quarterback from 2024 is on the move. The true freshman and former 3-star quarterback prospect threw for 2,723 yards and six interceptions. Tulane had a great season, finishing 9-4 and playing in the American Athletic Conference title game. Mensah is from San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Update: Darian Mensah has since committed to Duke.
Utah QB Isaac Wilson reportedly enters portal
Utes signal-caller Isaac Wilson has entered the portal, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. In nine games for Utah this season, Wilson threw for 1,510 yards with 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The former 4-star quarterback prospect from the class of 2024 is expected to be highly-touted prospect in the portal.

New Mexico QB Devon Dampier enters the transfer portal.
Devon Dampier, a sophomore quarterback at New Mexico, is entering the transfer portal. He started in all 12 games for the Lobos this season, completing 57.9% of his passes for 2,768, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, while also adding 1,166 rushing yards and 19 scores on the ground. Dampier carries three more years of eligibility.

Coastal Carolina QB Ethan Vasko to reportedly enter portal
Ethan Vasko, who started his career at Kansas before spending the last two seasons at Coastal Carolina, is reportedly entering the portal. He played in 20 games for the Chanticleers over two seasons, and was the starter for Coastal's entire 2024 season. Although the Chanticleers finished 6-6. Vasko threw for 2,110 yards with 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has two years of eligibility remaining.

Oklahoma QB Jackson Arnold reportedly to hit transfer portal
Former 5-star quarterback prospect Jackson Arnold is reportedly entering the portal after two seasons at Oklahoma. After being named the Sooners' starter at the start of the 2024 season, Arnold was benched during Oklahoma's fourth game of the season vs. Tennessee. He became the starter once again later in the year, and finished the season with 1,421 yards passing with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions. As a sophomore, he will have at least two years of eligibility remaining. Arnold is by far one of the biggest quarterback names to hit the portal so far.
Update: Arnold has since committed to Auburn.
Iowa's Cade McNamara reportedly entering the portal
For the second time in his career, Cade McNamara is reportedly on the move again. He played three seasons at Michigan, but transferred to Iowa before the 2023 season. With the Hawkeyes, he played in 13 games over two seasons, throwing for 1,522 yards with 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He missed the majority of last season with an ACL tear, and dealt with numerous injuries during the 2024 season.

Texas A&M's Conner Weigman entering portal
Aggie quarterback Conner Weigman has posted to X/Twitter that he is entering his name into the portal. He's a talented signal-caller when healthy, but he's dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career. He was a five-star QB prospect from the class of 2022, signing with Jimbo Fisher's No. 1 overall recruiting class.
After starting in Texas A&M's last five games of the 2022 season, he was named the Aggies starter at the beginning of 2023. He threw for 979 yards and eight touchdowns with two interceptions before a foot injury ended his year after just four games. He was named the starter before TAMU's 2024 season, but played in just six games, dealing with an AC joint shoulder injury. Head coach Mike Elko switched to back-up Marcel Reed under center late in the season. Over his three seasons in College Station, he's thrown for 2,694 yards with 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Nebraska's Daniel Kaelin entering the portal
The Cornhusker quarterback reportedly entered the portal on Tuesday. The former 3-star QB prospect from the class of 2024 took a redshirt this season, so he'll have four years of eligibility remaining.

USC QB Miller Moss enters the portal
The former Trojans signal-caller has now hit the market. Moss announced the news in a lengthy Instagram post. In the message, he called it a dream to play for USC. Moss thanked his teachers, coaches and teammates for the last few seasons. He closed the note by saying he's "unwaveringly committed to becoming an even better quarterback and leader." To achieve those goals, Moss felt it was necessary to enter the transfer portal.
Moss started for USC this season. But following a three-interception game in USC's 26-21 loss, he was benched for back-up Jayden Maiva. Moss has one year of eligibility left in college.
UAB QB Jacob Zeno entering transfer portal
Quarterback Jacob Zeno is entering the transfer portal as a graduate transfer, per reports. Starting his career at Baylor, he spent the last three seasons with the Blazers. He accounted for 4,666 yards passing with 31 touchdowns and 17 interceptions over three seasons. He will be seeking a seventh year of eligibility from the NCAA.
Old Dominion QB Grant Wilson to enter portal as a graduate transfer
Wilson, who missed the majority of this season due to injury, has reportedly entered the portal as a grad transfer. In 2023, he started in 12 games for the Monarchs, throwing for 2,149 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Mississippi State QB Chris Parson is reportedly entering portal
The Bulldogs signal-caller stepped on-campus as a 4-star quarterback recruit from the class of 2023, and will enter the portal, per reports. Although he was a Top-10 quarterback prospect from his class, he played in just six games over the last two seasons in Starkville. He threw for 103 yards and three interceptions.
Georgia Tech QB Zach Pyron reportedly set to enter portal
The Yellowjackets quarterback played in 19 games over the last three seasons, and will reportedly enter the portal with two years of eligibility left. He threw for 995 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions over three seasons at Tech, rushing for another six scores.

Liberty QB Kaidon Salter announces he's leaving for portal
Liberty QB Kaidon Salter announced Monday he's entering the transfer portal. In a note on Instagram, Salter thanked the team and university for the past four seasons. He cited the desire to "take the next step in my journey and do what I feel is best for my career" as the reason he's leaving the team.
After playing in just 10 games over his first two seasons, Salter appeared in 25 games the last two years. His best season came in 2023, when he passed for 32 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. He also ran for over 1,000 yards and scored 12 times on the ground.
Salter experienced some regression in 2024, tossing 15 touchdowns against 6 interceptions in 11 games.
Stanford QB Justin Lamson reportedly entering portal
Lamson, who played in 24 games with Stanford over the past two seasons, will reportedly enter the transfer portal. Lamson has started just four games for the Cardinal. Over his career, he's thrown for 804 yards, with four touchdowns against four interceptions. A dual threat, Lamson has rushed for 428 yards and scored 13 touchdowns on the ground.

Boston College QB Thomas Castellanos
Castellanos announced he was entering the portal in mid-November. Castellanos started as the Eagles' quarterback, but was benched for Grayson James late in the season. He has one year of eligibility left, having spent the last two seasons at BC and spending 2022 at UCF.
Over the last two seasons at BC, he threw for 3,614 yards with 33 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. He rushed for over 1,000 yards with 13 touchdowns on the ground last season.

Former UNLV QB Matt Sluka
Following a dispute with UNLV over an NIL deal, Matt Sluka announced he would enter the transfer portal in October. The news made massive headlines, as the starter left UNLV mid-season. He accused the school of giving him unfulfilled NIL promises. Sluka played at Holy Cross from 2020-23, and will have one year of eligibility left.
